This is one of those recipes that comes from a place of comfort baking—simple ingredients, minimal effort, and results that feel right at home on the breakfast table. I made these wild blueberry and banana muffins on a day when I wanted something dependable, lightly sweet, and suitable for both kids and adults.

I’ve always liked pairing bananas with berries in baked goods. Bananas add natural sweetness and moisture, while wild blueberries bring a deeper, slightly tart flavor that holds up well during baking. Together, they create muffins that are soft, flavorful, and not overly rich.

These muffins are easy to put together and don’t require anything fancy. They work just as well for weekday breakfasts as they do for packing into lunchboxes or serving alongside coffee on a relaxed morning.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 2 cups
  • Baking soda – 1 tsp
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Ripe bananas – 2, well mashed
  • Sugar – 3/4 cup
  • Oil – 1/3 cup
  • Milk – 1/4 cup
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tsp
  • Wild blueberries – 1 to 1 1/4 cups
(Fresh or frozen; do not thaw if frozen)

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin pan with paper liners.

2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a separate bowl, combine the mashed bananas, sugar, oil, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and fold gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

5. Fold in the blueberries carefully, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

6. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.

4. Mix well with a beater. Alternatively, you can mix everything in a stand mixer with the paddle attachment.

5. Line the muffin pans, and spray with oil if needed. Fill the muffin cups with the batter.

6. Bake in the heated oven for 17-19 minutes.

7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. Remove from the oven and allow the muffins to cool slightly before transferring them to a wire rack.

Soft, lightly sweet, and filled with bursts of blueberry flavor, these muffins are a dependable classic—perfect when you want something homemade without overthinking it.
