After almost five years of battling indecisiveness (which, by the way, comes quite naturally to me), I finally did it. I rebranded my blog. Roz Ka Khana is now The Mindful Veggie.
If I had to explain why I made this change after all these years in just a few words—it simply wasn’t me anymore.
Looking back at the years I’ve spent blogging, I can clearly see that I’ve gone through a transformation of my own, and that evolution has naturally reflected in the content of the blog.
When I first started Roz Ka Khana in February 2008, my intention was to document traditional recipes for posterity—family traditions, heirloom dishes, and keepsake recipes. That part has never changed, and it never will. What did change was my realization that, in hindsight, the name didn’t truly reflect that intent.
I chose the name Roz Ka Khana back then because it felt better than calling it www.myname.com, and to be honest, I also wanted a domain name that could potentially be sold someday. It was a name I had heard often while watching a cooking series, where a well-known Indian chef used it frequently. So there you have it—it wasn’t original, and it didn’t fully align with purpose. Two things that, I now realize, are essential when choosing a blog identity.
That said, I’m not dissing the name after all these years, nor do I regret how long it took me to make this change. I’ve learned a great deal about myself and the evolving purpose of the blog along the way. I had also grown quite comfortable with the name and resisted change for a long time. It’s just that priorities and goals evolve.
While the essence of the blog remains the same, there is now a much broader scope to the content I’ve been consciously nurturing—beyond just Indian cooking and recipes. I’ve realized that no matter how much you try to “go with the flow,” there are certain themes and interests you naturally gravitate toward, and those ultimately define your niche and passions.
Moving to Singapore three years ago has been one of the best things that’s happened to me in terms of personal growth and rediscovering my interests. I found my way into green smoothies, juicing, healthy eating and living, a largely plant-based diet, consistent exercise, meditation, yoga, Reiki, and understanding the impact of nutrition on the mind, body, and soul. These have all been personal experiments—and the results have been incredibly tangible.
I’ve learned to be more mindful of what I eat and how it affects my emotional and physical well-being. I’ve discovered that there is so much more to vegetarian food across cultures, waiting to be explored and savored. Every morsel carries its own energy, meant to be nurtured and channeled. And it led me to ask—how do all these ideas connect? How do we apply them to our traditional cuisines, Indian food, and the recipes passed down by our parents, families, and friends?
So after much contemplation, I introduce The Mindful Veggie—a blog about healthy eating and mindful living. Mostly Indian. Completely vegetarian.
I will continue to document the traditions and recipes of our mothers and grandmothers, because there is nothing healthier or more authentic than the food our ancestors cooked for their families. Many Indian—especially South Indian—recipes are naturally vegan and gluten-free. They’ve existed for centuries; they were simply never labeled that way.
Join me on this journey of mindful eating, nourishment, and self-discovery. I hope you find it as relevant and enjoyable as I continue to share my experiences and experiments.
A few housekeeping notes for readers across different platforms:

I have enjoyed your recipes down and the years and loved your blogs, but to be honest, it was the name that drew me in and brought back the memories and nostalgia of my mothers kitchen…
sadly the new name does not do anything in terms of visual or other appeal to me, it sounds like just another site, I understand your need for change, but not the loss of identity.
HI Monica – thanks for your candid feedback. I can assure you that the recipes and the essence of what this stands for does not change. As I mentioned I will continue to write about the traditional recipes and recreate the nostalgia in the write up – its just that while the name may have “aligned” itself to the content over the years that wasn’t the reason it was chosen so didn’t ring true to me. This wasn’t a need for change because I was bored of the name or something it was akin to choosing something in haste and trying to live with it for years which didn’t feel comfortable. I hope you will see that in future posts. There are numerous little kinks to be fixed in the look and feel so I request you to be patient as I try to “settle in” in the new home. Thank you for all your support so far.
